How to Rock Your Yoga Outfit – What to Wear for Yoga?
Yoga is a great way to reflect, relax and exercise. However, wearing the wrong clothing could make you uncomfortable or even restrict your movement. Here are some tips to help you select the most appropriate yoga clothing for women.
What to Wear for Yoga?
In general, your clothing should be comfortable and breathable. Fabrics such as cotton, bamboo and jersey are terrific options. You should be able to move freely without having to adjust your outfit. Before ripping the tags off of your yoga clothes, try doing some poses in the mirror and bending down just to make sure that you are not exposing any part of your body that you don’t feel comfortable with. You should also take into account the type of yoga you will be doing.
Beginners in particular seem to think a bit too much about clothes, mats, and other yoga gear (as in other fitness activities). A trip to a specific clothes shop or a bulk order from a specialist supplier is certainly not required to get going. Your yoga outfit is not supposed to be too tight so you don't feel restriction. The material should be very elastic, so that even in advanced stretching positions you get complete freedom of mobility. Simultaneously, it shouldn't be a loose cloth or the T-shirt could fall onto your face while you're in different yoga positions. If you like loose clothes please make sure the cuffs match and fit.
Here are some things to consider:
Will you be doing inversions?
Is it a beginner’s class or an advanced class?
What temperature will the room be? Will you be doing Bikram or hot yoga? Do you anticipate sweating a lot?
Will you be practicing outside?
What to Avoid?
Avoid clothing with belts, zippers, buttons and underwire as these can get caught or dig into your skin. Instead opt for elastic waistbands and clothing without hard parts or thick seams. It is also a good idea to avoid translucent fabrics. It is often difficult to tell how see-through a fabric is until it is stretched. Try stretching the fabric over your hand, if you can see your skin, it may be too thin. Speaking of thin fabrics…when wearing a pad to yoga, try bending down in front of a mirror to make sure that it can’t be seen through your clothing. Sporty apparel is enough to give you full freedom of movement. Every type of sportswear typically fulfills this aim but do not wear functional undergarments that are too colorful or include plastic.
Tops
Tops should be fitted but not constricting. You want it to be tight enough that it won’t come up when doing an inversion but loose enough to let you breath fully. Many people go for for tank tops. If you are not comfortable in a tank top, try putting a looser shirt over it. Just make sure it doesn’t get in the way of your poses. It is best to stay away from tops that show too much cleavage. You defiantly don’t want a wardrobe malfunction. If you decide to wear a loose shirt without a tank under it, you may have to tuck it in.
If you are doing Bikram or hot yoga, many women prefer a sports bra by itself. If you are uncomfortable in just a sports bra, try finding a top that allows you to keep cool. Tops that wick away sweat are a great option.
Bottoms
Yoga bottoms come in many different lengths, colors and styles. Pick the pants or shorts that make you feel confident and show your personality. Select them based on the type of movement you anticipate doing in class. While doing more active forms of yoga, three-quarter-length pants or even shorts may be the best option because they will help keep you cool. If you do decide to wear shorts, make sure that you can move your legs without exposing, well…you know. Bicycle shorts work well because they are specifically designed to allow for a lot of leg movement. Well-fitting, lightweight clothes, yoga leggings and trousers with adjustable cuffs are perfect for yoga. Most yoga schools prefer softer colors in order to build a warm, distraction-free environment in the space.
Swimsuits
If you are doing yoga on the beach, feel free to wear your swimsuit. It is best to go for an athletic swimsuit with a decent amount of coverage.
Yoga Accessories and Styling
A yoga mat is compulsory, numerous yoga studios offer their students yoga mats. The traditional wooden blocks help make it easier to do yoga asanas. To get started, this can be useful but it also depends on your personal preference.
It is not advisable to wear jewelry during yoga, but you can always punch up your outfit a bit with a fun headband or hair tie. You can select yoga cloths with fun colors and patterns. If you are worried about sweating, pick a busy pattern or a dark color.
Wearing athletic clothes does not have to be boring. Spice up your yoga practice with kick ass outfit.
